Week Of December 2nd 2013

Aloha families!  I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and enjoyed some time with friends and family.

This week is a regular week.  We will have homework each night.  In math we are beginning to learn strategies for subtraction regrouping.  Please be patient as your child learns different ways to solve a problem.  I promise we will get to the standard math algorithm, but for now we will continue to explore different ways to solve a problem.  If you have any questions please contact me.

This year for our winter program we will Performing a song called "North Pole Rock and Roll".  Your child will be dressing up in a 50's style outfit.  We are asking all students to wear a plain white T-shirt with blue jeans and tennis shoes.  Also if your child has sunglasses they can bring those in on the day of the performance.  Girls are encouraged to wear their hair in a high ponytail and to wear a nylon scarf around their neck.

I will send home more information in the Wednesday envelope.

Instead we will have a skill sheet along with a math sheet all week.

On Wednesday I will be sending home a fun family activity.  It is called Turkey In Disguise.  I am asking that you help your child to disguise their turkey so it won't be eaten on Thanksgiving.  Please help them to complete the attached worksheet at well.

This is a fun way to help your child be creative and think outside the box a bit.  Please send in completed turkeys by Monday November 18th.

Thank You

Last week was one of the best weeks ever!!  I felt so loved and appreciated and I just want to send out a big warm Thank You to everyone!

The rest of the year is winding down quickly and I just wanted to give you a heads up on a few dates.

This Friday is May Day!  Please have your child to school on time if they are participating.  Girls need to bring in their tank tops by Thursday and wear their bikini bottoms to school. You can take out their braids and spray their hair, or we can do that here.

Boys need to wear their bright colored shorts to school on Friday.  We will provide the shirts.

Next week is our last week.  We will not have homework and we will be bringing home our supplies starting on Tuesday.  Please send your child to school with a heavy duty bag that they can carry their items in.

Thursday is our Class Auction.  If  you have donated items thank you very much!!  If you are planning on sending in some things please send them by Thursday May 23rd.

To end out our year I thought it would be fun to have a picnic out on the far end of the field Thursday May 23rd.  We would love for you to join us from 11:00-12:00.  Bring your lunch and a blanket and enjoy having lunch with your child.

This has been a fun and busy year for all of us.  I would just like to again thank each and every one of you for all of your help and support this year.  I couldn't do it without your wonderful support!!

4th Quarter Already!

Aloha families!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break and you are ready to get back into the swing of things.

Can you believe it is already 4th quarter!!  It will go by quickly, especially with May Day coming up on May 17th.  Make sure you mark your calendars.

I am sure many of you have heard about our new money system that we are using in class.  The students are given Beach Bucks for doing their classroom jobs and school work.  I will send home a letter on Wednesday letting you know more details. If you have any questions about it just let me know.

Remember to keep checking your child homework and making sure they are reading for 20 minutes each night.  They are preparing for the 3rd grade now and the homework is going to get a bit tougher.  Remember it is still their responsibility to do it, but a gently reminder and routine always helps.

Have a wonderful week!

Almost Spring Break!

Can you believe we only have two weeks until Spring Break!?  Where has the time gone?

These next two weeks we will wrap up this quarter learning about magnets and money.

Don't forget we have a play coming up on Friday March 15th.  Most students have brought in their $5 to cover the cost.  If you have not sent money please send it by Thursday March 14th.

On Friday we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading about him and reading the Lorax.  The students love reading all the Dr. Suess books and were so interested to learn new facts about him.  Remember to read, read, read at home!!  Here are a few cute pictures using our Dr. Seuss camera.
